Cross Stitch Conquered makes autumn happier!

ladies, I can stitch. A thing I thought I could never do. All thanks to Janice from Postcardsfromwildwood who is not only an artist when it comes to needle and thread but also is an exceptional tutor. She made a couple of Christmas Stockings in cross stitch, to which I wished the tutorial. And here I am! I now know how to stitch cross patterns on an even weave cloth. *doing a little happy dance*. If you are new here and you are like me, who could never figure out cross stitches, head over to hers and I’m betting my blog that you’ll find it a piece of cake after you’ve read her.

I sincerely wish I had her in school instead of our very sick craft tutor, she was probably the reason why I never bothered to touch the whole needle section. This piece with her initial is dedicated to Janice for being such a great friend- I’m so blessed I met her through blog over almost an year ago and since then we’ve been friends. Janice, my first work is for you! I know this is not too perfect but this is my first and I want you to have it.

I’m thinking of stitching a couple of autumn patterns too and turn them to coasters. What do you think, now that I can “STITCH”! Ha!

  1. Oh my goodness! And so quickly too! Very well done. And thank you for the dedication. 🙂 Now that you have mastered the basics it will be easy to move on to slightly bigger pieces, and I think a couple of autumn coasters will be perfect, especially with this fabric. It looks, from the photos, a little like a hessian? Pliable but with quite stiff fibres…? That would be lovely for autumn coasters – but just so you know – there are lots of other kinds of evenweave fabrics available – different colours, gauges, and different degrees of softness. If you visit a needlecraft store you can ask advice about them and try out a different one for another project.

    • Janice, yes this is hessian. In the craft store they showed me a couple of fabric that I could use for cross stitch, and this is what I chose. I’ll tell you why actually. Because in this, the gaps are wider and visible. Thought this would be a good start since I am a novice (read: pathetic) at needlework.

  3. Thank you Michele 🙂 Considering my first time, I think I faired well if not exceptional.

    I think it’s the time. A time that makes you want to sit back, sip on a cup of tea, snuggle in the comforts of your living room and create. Imagine sitting infront of the fire place with some Christmas crafts or writing or even making a plain Christmas to do list. The event itself is so invigorating.

    I’m choosing patterns today for the coasters and believe me life would have been a tad simpler if there were no options. I’m going bonkers 🙂
